As I have walked with the Lord, one thing He has put so deeply on my heart is justice. I hate injustice! I hate seeing innocent people suffer at the hands of others. I hate seeing despicable decisions get made that hurt, tear down, cause division (especially in the body of Christ!) and leave God’s chosen people struggling. Not only is it evil, it is also perilous ground to tread on.
God is passionate about His beloved.
He is the Father of justice.
And He calls us to do the same. Pursue justice with all of our hearts.
“Follow justice and justice alone, so that you may live and possess the land the Lord your God is giving you.” ~~ Deut. 16:20
About a year ago I noticed something awful happening in the community that I love—the community of people who are called to adopt, foster, and who go to great lengths to bring home precious children.
I sat at my computer late one night reading threads on public forums and groups. Through tearful eyes I wondered, I questioned, and I felt so absolutely heartsick.
One family was in the firing line. So very publicly!
One family was betrayed and slandered by the very people who were meant to come alongside them in support and unending encouragement (no matter what!).
The following day I rose with a heavy heart. Seeking truth for myself, I contacted the family being publicly shamed and I asked them to share TRUTH with me. Why? Because that’s what God expects of His Body—to be truth seekers—no matter what the cost!
I listened for two hours as Diane wept and shared her tender heart with me.
It was the straw that broke the camel’s back, if you will. For the longest time I had been on the fence—continually choosing to give one particular “ministry” the benefit of the doubt.
It was a testimony that broke my heart in two! I was grieved at how an organization that I once loved, supported and raised funds for could turn on one of their families and slam them so publicly. I ached at how this family had pursued a child in Russia for a very long time (facing obstacle after obstacle)…only to be met by the deplorable actions of an organization whose mission is meant to be going to the ends of the earth to see children placed in loving families. The Higbies should NEVER have lost their sweet daughter in Russia!
Over the last year I have watched and prayed as the Higbie family lost their precious Lera in Russia. I have also watched in amazement as this family has risen from circumstances that surely would have made me want to bury my head in the sand and tell God, “Forget it, I’m not doing this ever again!”
But not the Higbies! I have been astounded at the grace they have poured out and the love of Christ they have lavished upon those who have hurt them. I have been amazed at the sheer faith that they have in their God who they KNOW is more than able to restore what the locusts have eaten. When I probably would have given up, they have not!
The Higbie family hosted three very special teenagers recently. Hearts knit together, a family began to grown again. Not one. Not even two. All three teenagers begged the Higbies to come back for them! For the first time in their lives, they belonged.
Beauty began to rise from those ashes!
“Yes, Lord!” was their answer to heaven. Because that’s just who these people are. Faithful servants!
“It will never work! You will never get approval to adopt them!” they were told by the same organization that had hurt them so.
I am so thankful that this family listened to the Voice of Truth—the One who calms the raging sea and parts the waters so that mind-blowing miracles can abound!
The Higbies are almost ready to travel to adopt Nadiya, 17, Oksana, 16, and her brother Vasyl, 14. But, sadly, they are still short on funds.
$6000 is NOTHING in the Kingdom of God. Absolutely nothing!
$6000 is the RANSOM to save the lives of three teenagers who are destined to a life of sheer hopelessness in their country unless someone comes for them.
This is their last chance! This is their only hope. Many of you are already familiar with what happens to orphans who “age out” in Eastern Europe. It is truly beyond human understanding—a human rights catastrophe! These three teenagers desperately need OUT.
I believe in the redeeming power of God. And I believe that very often He uses us, His glorious Church, to be the hands that bring about that redemption.
I long with all of my heart to see EVERYTHING that has been stolen from this precious family restored…and more!
I long to see them get on a flight very soon with the absolute assurance that they are loved, treasured, and that the battle has been won!
