set them free!

This is our friend, Bob, and his sweet little boy, Isaac.

Isn’t he totally handsome in his Sunday best?

Isaac has been chosen.  For almost three years he has been the son born in their hearts.  Our friends committed to adopting him a very long time ago.  Paperwork got done, a bedroom got prepared for Isaac, and things moved quickly to bring him home to join his many siblings.

Then, just like that, things changed!

All adoptions from Kyrgyzstan came to a grinding halt.  According to this CNN report, “Kyrgyzstan implemented the freeze so the government could revise its adoption regulations, after allegations of corruption and illegal processing, according to the U.S. State Department. American officials have encouraged Kyrgyzstan to join the Hague Intercountry Adoption Convention, a treaty established in 1993 to standardize the adoption process and encourage cooperation between countries of origin and receiving countries. But Kyrgyzstan has yet to sign on.”

The result?  SIXTY-FIVE children who had families committed to them are still in that country–waiting to come home.  SIXTY-FIVE children are now three years older and are still orphans.  Two children have already died!  Like many countries, the living conditions in orphanages are beyond awful.  Children with special needs simply cannot survive in those hideous conditions.

These families have never given up hope that one day soon their sweet children will come home. They have traveled to that country numerous times to spend time with the children they love. They’re holding on to the hope that one day soon they will come home.  A parent never gives up on their child–no matter what!

Last month these waiting families were given a glimmer of hope.  It seemed as if things may start moving along.  But sadly, that may not be the case.  Certain government officials are doing their utmost to sabotage things.  The enemy is doing all he can to keep these children in captivity.

Friends, today I come to you begging for your prayers for these families and their children who wait.  This week a prayer wave has been organized.  They’re calling on us, the body of Christ, to come together and pray that this mountain will move in the name of Jesus.  We’re uniting in prayer, trusting that our Father IS mighty to save!  You can find a list of prayer requests here.

Would you please spread the word to your prayer groups, small groups, churches, and friends?  Would you be willing to intercede for these precious families and their children who wait on the other side of the world?

I absolutely cannot even imagine being in their shoes.  A one-year paperchase was hard enough for me.  But three years of not knowing when I will ever get to hold my sweet child?  Oh my!  Anyone who has ever adopted a child knows how terribly difficult it is.  For these families it is even harder–they know their kids.  They’re not just a face in a picture!  They’ve spent time with them, loved them, and held them.

And each time they’ve had to hug them one last time, turn away, and walk out of the orphanage, leaving them behind!  It must be excruciating.

This far and no further!  The army of the risen Lord is uniting to pray.

Three years is long enough! Set them free!

You can keep updated on all of the families’ Facebook page here.
