I know that, like me, so many of you are passionate about orphans and adoption. We ache for the fatherless and the plight of the millions of children who are orphaned around the world. As many of you may know, the rate of international adoption has decreased by 75% since 2004. For the children who remain orphaned, it’s truly devastating!
Recently our government has proposed new rules regulating intercountry adoptions. These rules will DRASTICALLY affect the ability for orphans overseas to be adopted into loving families. Many fear that the new rules will ultimately end all international adoptions. The results of which are just completely unthinkable for thousands and thousands of children.
As of today 26 adoption agencies signed a letter to the US State Department asking them to withdraw the proposed new rules on intercountry adoption. The Department of State gave them 42 working days to respond to the rule changes.
