we evacuated

What a devastating few days it has been here in Colorado!  The fires engulfing the beautiful mountains in which we live has been something awful to watch.  So far over 300 homes have been destroyed and tens of thousands of people are evacuated from their homes.

Yesterday we packed our van with our most essential belongings and left our home in our little town and headed to a place of safety. It was no longer safe for us to stay and wait things out with all of our children.  And so we quickly evacuated along with hundreds of others who live in our town.  Our little dog (and the fish) is with us and our two sweet kittens are safely staying at an emergency pet shelter for those who have been evacuated.  Anthony had to leave home a few days ago and has been staying with friends due to the fact that major roads are closed and he could not get home. As a hospice chaplain he was urgently needed and having my Dad with me gave us all peace to send him off to go and assist others during this time of great need. We are so happy to all be together again.

It sure has been crazy and very unsettling.  But we know that we know that God is in control of tomorrow, and that is where our peace lies.

Please, please pray for the fires which continue to grow and spread in our area. It truly is heartbreaking to see so much loss, so much devastation.  Please trust with us that God would open the floodgates of heaven and pour down rain on our dry and thirsty land.  Also, protection for the many, many firefighters working so hard to put these fires out.  It’s a very tough job and we are so thankful for their amazing efforts.

Taking things one day at a time and longing for the day when Jesus will return to the earth and there will be no more pain, no more sorrow–the time when He will make all things right in the world!
